Three Parks Challenge
The Three Parks Challenge started in 2015 as a low level fundraiser for the Town Twinning Association, also filling a gap in the local fun running scene – at this time, unlike other local towns, Llandeilo did not have its own fun run.
In the first year, despite only being advertised via Facebook and some hard work distributing leaflets at other events, a very respectable 70 runners turned up on the night. Five years on, and in 2020 the race was attended by over 250 adult runners and 100 children in a mini challenge over 2km. All seems set for the event's continued growth.
The route is a challenging 10km through two of the Town’s parks (Dinefwr Park and Parc Penlan) and past its third, Parc Le Conquet, offering a varied and interesting route. Promoting fitness for all, those not up to running 10km can enjoy a 2km guided walk though the parks instead.
The 3 Parks Challenge is now firmly established not only as a race for local runners and running clubs, but also as a social event in the Town’s calendar. It has also sparked enthusiasm for running in the town, and may even have been a catalyst for other organisations to stage other fun runs taking place throughout the year.
We are lucky that right from the start, the event has been well supported by local businesses so runners are able to enjoy not only well deserved prizes at the end of the race, but also a taste of France with Cheese and Wine once they have finished.
Unfortunately, due COVID-19, the 3 Parks Challenge could not be held in 2020 or 2021, due to the continuing uncertainty over rules and restrictions. Rest assured, the planners are still as keen as ever to make it happen in 2022, so whatever your interest in the 3 Parks Challenge, whether you want to come along to run, to win, to walk, or just to soak up the atmosphere, then watch this page for updates.
